New Synthetic Turf Football Sideline Installed by Turf Solutions Group (TSG) for Metamora Township High School’s Football Stadium Will Reduce Maintenance, Improve Utilization.
Metamora, IL (August 18, 2010) - Before golf and athletic field design construction company Turf Solutions Group (TSG) was hired by Metamora Township High School (MTHS) to replace the high school football stadium’s natural grass sideline with synthetic turf, this high traffic area suffered from more than the cleats of football players. It was also used for percussion setup in the Drum and Bugle Corp competition that is held at Metamora every summer. Plus it was used in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, the annual Marching Band Competition hosted by MTHS and High School Graduation. The end result was that the high school’s maintenance staff constantly struggled to restore the natural grass sideline.
"Like all schools, we currently have tight budgets," commented MTHS Athletic Director, Jared Hart. "The football coaching staff was involved in selecting the sideline replacement project as the one we wanted to do, but this project really came to life primarily because the MTHS Booster Club funded it, along with additional funding from a memorial donation to the athletic program and from the Band Boosters."
The MTHS athletic faculty interviewed several different athletic field construction companies. TSG was a natural choice to replace the sideline because they already had heavy equipment and staff in the area to construct the new Metamora Fields Golf Club and Residential Community.
"Working with TSG was a great experience, said Hart. “Even though I suspect this is a smaller-than-usual project for them, their current involvement in Metamora allowed them to provide a competitive bid. This was an advantage for us — TSG brought a great deal of professional expertise to our sideline replacement, like they do every job. Their experience was instrumental in protecting our track throughout the construction as well as finessing the elevation to create a smooth transition from natural turf to synthetic turf."
Because of the many activities that take place on the field all summer, TSG only had a small window of time in which to finish the sidelines. They were done a week before the MTHS’ July 6 Drum and Bugle Corp competition.
