Major Progress Made at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex

Peoria, IL (July 15, 2015) - By late this summer, Peoria will be home to a one-of-a-kind baseball and softball complex. The complex, being built by Turf Solutions Group (TSG) in Central Illinois, will be comprised of 10 outdoor and 2 indoor synthetic fields, including a 125,000 square foot dome and all‐purpose hard courts. Expected to be one of the country’s premier youth sports facilities, the complex will be the only Louisville Slugger branded sports complex in the nation.

The first of 10 synthetic fields to be completed

Turf Solutions Group provided design services for the project and began field construction late this spring. Despite poor weather conditions over the last month, construction continues to progress well. Jason Payne, managing partner at TSG, stated, "The weather hasn’t exactly been our friend as of recently, but we are committed to delivering a quality product in a timely manner. Our experience and expertise in building large complexes like this makes us uniquely suited for this project.”

Due to concerns about heat on the fields, TSG made specific design changes to ensure that players remain safe. Payne said, ”We designed a proprietary blend of turf, colors, and infill to ensure that the fields would stay cool and keep players safe while remaining aesthetically pleasing. These fields will be 10‐15 degrees cooler than the average synthetic turf field.

Dan Cunningham, General Manager of the complex, has been impressed with Turf Solutions Group’s work so far, and is excited to see the project grow. “We knew going in that TSG does great work, and we expected nothing less from them with our project. Things are looking good on-site, and I am eager to continue to watch things develop."

Additional features of the complex include sunken dugouts, bullpens, full service concessions, and great viewing areas on every field. The complex is expected to host over 10,000 games per year, welcoming teams from all over the United States. Completion of the project is slated for late this summer.
