Turf Solutions Group LLC Brief Profile

Turf Solutions Group LLC ("TSG") is an Illinois LLC. The vision of TSG was and continues to be a company dedicated to the design and construction of recreational land development. Since formation, TSG has completed projects in 42 states and 8 countries.

The partners and staff of TSG bring a variety of talents to the company. The mix of specialties offered allows TSG to offer a turn key approach from design, business planning, construction planning and construction within the recreational land development market.

Key Management

Jason Payne PhotoJason Payne – Jason is one of the founding partners of TSG. Jason is responsible for the marketing of TSG and business planning for clients. Jason is an entrepreneur in the truest sense of the word having been a business owner for most of his career. He owned a technology business in Peoria that developed software applications for the transportation and logistics industry before selling it to a public company, and Jason also is a partner in a business advisory company that specializes in the sale of niche businesses to private equity firms.

Bill Phillips PhotoBill Phillips – Bill is one of the founding partners of TSG. Bill is a landscape architect and land planner and directs all design activity performed by the company. He has spent more than 25 years designing recreational facilities for municipal governments, park districts and private clients in the United States, South America and Asia. Bill has spent the past 10+ years designing many championship golf courses throughout the United States, Central America and Asia. Bill and the TSG design and planning staff have worked with many of the top names in the golf industry.

Scott Pierce PhotoScott Pierce – Scott is one of the founding partners of TSG. Scott has more than 20 years of experience in the construction of recreational facilities with a specialty in golf facility construction. Scott coordinates all phases of construction for TSG. Scott has been the project manager of more than 50 projects during his career ranging from private estate projects to championship level golf courses. He has completed projects in the United States, Europe, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Mead Babcock – Mead joined the partnership group as an owner in January 2007. Mead serves as President and General Manager of TSG and is responsible for the daily operations of TSG and overseeing administrative functions of accounting, contract development and human resources. He is a Certified Public Accountant and spent most of his career in executive management roles within a publicly traded utility holding company based in Illinois. Mead also has experience in leading new business launches, successfully starting a fiber optics network business that was later sold to a regional company yielding a high rate of return for the corporate investor.

Chris Renner – Chris joined the partnership group as an owner in January 2009. Chris is responsible for the athletic complex project planning and also residential and commercial housing related to TSG projects. Chris played NCAA Division 1 Baseball for Western Illinois University and has coached baseball at all levels of high school and junior college. Chris is also very active in non-profit national baseball academies as an assistant director, coach and mentor to inner-city youths.

Holly Emlen – Holly is responsible for administration management at TSG’s Illinois office. Holly manages the interaction between all of the project managers and project superintendents with the administrative office. She is also responsible for supporting the logistics process with several projects. She also assists with some of the accounting operations.

Mike Ryan – Mike is a project manager for TSG responsible for client work in golf and athletics. Mike has a 20+ year history in construction with an emphasis on sports fields and golf over the last 10 years. Mike has worked on everything from championship golf courses to professional sports fields during his career. Mike has experience in warm and cool season grasses. Mike has provided construction management in every phase of athletic fields, and in most phases of golf construction. Mike is a good team leader with years of managing crews as large as 25.

Don Zanzie – Don is an estimator and project manager for TSG. Don provides estimating for golf and athletics, and he and the support staff work with our materials suppliers everywhere that we’ve worked. Don has 20+ years in the recreational land development industry with an emphasis in golf. Don has been responsible for golf construction, golf grow-in, and daily maintenance management for some of the top golf courses in the Midwest. Don has experience in warm and cool season grasses. Don has managed crews as large as 40.

Andy Paulson – Andy is a logistics and finance planning manager at TSG. TSG works directly with the partners on a daily basis to review project financing, high level logistics planning, and resource allocation to most of the larger projects. Andy also assists in document preparation to support financing, permitting, annexation and zoning with many of TSG’s clients.

John Ehrgott – John is responsible for business development and marketing within the golf segment of TSG. John has a long history as an outstanding player in collegiate golf and national amateur events. John provides support in planning and construction of golf courses and practice facilities including new construction and renovation.

Gary Olson – Gary is responsible for business development and marketing within TSG. Gary works with many of TSG’s existing client relationships as well as new business development for prospects of TSG. Gary has 10 years experience in business development and is a sports enthusiast.

Lendon Parker – Lendon is responsible for design support. Lendon works in TSG’s Tempe, Arizona office and supports all of the design services for our staff. He also provides cut/fill calculations and quantity take-offs from plan sheets for our design/build projects.

Steve Ambrose – Steve has over twenty-five years of experience in all phases of golf course construction and development, golf maintenance and management, and sports turf management. He has project manager and superintendent experience of ten new championship golf courses including many re-construction projects in the United States, Singapore and Baja California. Steve has grow-in experience on eight highly rated championship courses. Steve has also been a director of agronomy and superintendent experience with cool and warm season grasses and all climate zones.

Terry Vickrey – Terry has over twenty years of experience in all phases of golf course construction and development and turf management. Terry is also very accomplished in sports venue construction management. He has project manager experience of championship golf courses including many re-construction projects in the United States. Terry has grow-in experience on eight highly rated championship courses. Terry is also an accomplished equipment operator for nearly all types of equipment needed for construction of sports and golf.
